Commercialized Processing of Orange
Project Scale
The total investment of this project amounts to RMB 59 million, among which RMB 3 million is for fixed investment and RMB 6 million for the inf4rastructure of the producing base. RMB 59 million foreign investment is needed for this project. It is planned to purchase a set of commercialized processing equipment with annual process capacity of 300 thousand tons and to build a canned orange production line with annual capacity of 50 thousand tons. The annual sale of the commercialized-processed orange and its further-processed products can amount to more than RMB 300 million.
Project Advantages
Orange industry is a superior one in Changde’s agriculture. The Broad Peel Orange has an obvious comparative advantage and a good industrial foundation. In Changde, the orange planting area is over 1 million mu, the annual orange production is about 500 thousand tons and the annual value of the fresh orange is more than RMB400 million. In recent years, Shimen county of Changde city held successfully several Chinese Orange Festivals, which enhance greatly the reputation of Changde’s orange. In the harvest time of each year, purchasers poured into Changed from different places. In recent years, Changde saw the success of attempting commercialized processing of orange and the successive emergence of some large units engaging in this business, who nearly introduced in 50 small-sized commercialized processing equipments and accumulated rich experience. At present, there is only on small-sized orange processing enterprise (majoring in processing of canned orange) with annual process capacity of only 20 thousand tons in Changde. However, it laid a sound foundation for the further process of orange.
Market Prospect and Economic Efficiency
This project enjoys a promising prospect. Firstly, the Broad Peel Orange and its processed products are agricultural products that have competitive advantage in the international market. With the gradual removal of tariff barrier and the widespread application of pollution –free cultivating technology, the export of orange and its processed products will increase greatly. Secondly, Changde enjoys a favorable ecological environment for the growth of the Wenzhou orange that is of high quality and occupies a large share of the domestic market. With the improvement of the Chinese people’s living standard and the further development of their sense of health, the demand of orange will increase further. The commercialized processing of orange is an important part of industrialized construction of orange. At present, the annual capacity of commercialized processing of orange only occupies 10% of the total annual production of orange of Changde, both storage capacity and processing capcity being 5%. According to Changde’s Eleventh Five Years Plan for Economy and Industry, the orange planting area of Changde will increase to 1.2 million mu with annual production of 850 thousand tons by the year of 2010. when there will be enough high quality fresh orange available for processing. After this project goes into operation, it can process 50 thousand tons of fresh orange and further-process 80 thousand tons of fresh orange each year, with annual value of RMB 360 million, among which more than RMB 100 million is foreign exchange income. Therefore, the project is of significance to promote the development of the orange industry, increase agriculture efficiency and farmers’ income and increase tax and foreign exchange income.
